Our pipers plaid is made from 4 yards of material. It features braided fringe on one end and fringe on the other.

NOTE: Some piper's plaids may require a seam due to 30" weaving width. This is a CUSTOM product that cannot be returned. State tartan and shade. We MUST know if you're matching another garment.

Delivery approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

The plaid originates from the historic Great Kilt worn by a highlander.

The tartan fabric would serve both as a blanket and bedding to sleep with, and also as clothing to wear during the day. The tartan was wrapped around the waist and folded in a "pleat-like" style which was held in place by a belt. The material that was left over from the waist was then thrown over the left shoulder.

Today, we honor this historic garment by wearing a plaid of matching tartan which is held in place by a decorative brooch.

    This looks sharp

This was very well made. Even though I ordered the kilt a year earlier, they were able to match my plaid.

Terrific workmanship in a versatile length. Excellent materials and they took the extra time to match my kilt.

It is in my family tartan, the weathered Irvine. Very well-tailored. I love it!

    Phenominal Plaid

Posted by Michael Henry on 29th May 2021

Aside from the U.S. Coast Guard Tartan not being prolific in the community, they have it and we’re able to match my Kilt. My first Plaid was from another vendor who made it too short and the pleats were backwards and it was too wide for my Torso. The Plaid from J. Higgins was perfect. I’m 5’8” and their standard length enables me to put it on unassisted. It is also more narrow than my other plaid, so it fits great without bunching up. If you have custom needs just let them know and they work with you.

I've been doing business with jHiggins since 01, I think. It's always been a good experience and product. I bought my first kilt from jhiggins. All the best Lary Fowler

    Well Made

Very nice braiding on the fringe. No seam on the product either. Matched to the kilt and Bagpipe cover I purchased in 2016 I believe. Allow for more time than stated . Took longer than 8 weeks but it was worth the wait.

    A bit too long...

The quality and workmanship is outstanding. However, the length of the plaid is more suitable for a person of 6 feet or more in height (I'm 5'7"). I'll have to take it to my alterations shop and have the short end cut back.

The pipers plaid matches my kilt and bagpipe bag perfectly. High quality workmanship. Love that it comes from a mill in Scotland. Looks terrific.

Took awhile to get correct tartan, which was immediately worked on, by J. Higgins. Finished product is fantastic, great value!
