McCallum bagpipes has introduced small pipes to their range of quality instruments. Engineered to produce the same high standards in appearance and tone that have made their bagpipes renowned the world over, this instrument provides great playing pleasure and satisfaction to the owner.
Pictured with celtic engraving and mopane mounts seen here, these black wood smallpipes are bellows-blown with a handmade leather bellows, and are fitted with a Bannatyne synthetic bag, velvet cover, Ezeedrone reeds, and cane chanter reed, and drone switch. The drone switch allows you to turn the drones on and off.
They feature the following engraving patterns: Celtic, Thistle, Victorian Scroll, Zoomorphic.
Highland pipers will find great enjoyment after mastering these pipes, which use the same finger techniques as the Highland pipes. The sound is rich and melodic and, of course, not as loud as your Highland pipes, making them the perfect compliment to your indoor playing and performances.

McCallum Smallpipes
I had been thinking of acquiring a set of Smallpipes to play (when I’m not playing my GHB’s). After extensive research, I concluded that these McCallums were the best quality at a decent price. They did not disappoint. They came helped and reeded (ezee-drone Smallpipe reeds), and ready to play. The bellows will take some getting used to, but they came into tune easily, and have an excellent, rich, tone. They’re a great alternative when playing indoors, or with other instruments.

excellent across the board
Not only are the pipes beautiful and sound amazing, but the Higgins crew was awesome to work with. I believe it was the owner who emailed me back and forth about the status of my pipes being shipped from Scotland. Due to Covid there was quite the delay but it was well worth the wait. I've been a highland bagpiper for about 15 years and decided to give the small pipes a try, it is a bit of a learning curve but it's a lot of fun.

Most beautiful pipes Ive ever owned
The pictures and videos of these bellows-blown small pipes don’t do them justice. The wood is exquisite and the thistle pattern is very attractive. I’ve always had imitation ivory, but went for the Mopane mounts and couldn’t be happier. The sound is lovely and perfect for indoors. It’s definitely a challenge to get used to the bellows, but I think it will be worth it as I live in an extremely arid area and I’m a wet blower. They come with drone plugs, but the switch feature is pretty fantastic. Finally, I would add that my set came ready to play and I was pleased at how well they were packed. I bought a case a week later after calling to figure out which case they’d fit in and had an excellent chat. I will definitely come back to J. Higgins for all my piping and kilt needs.
