Your J. Higgins Kilt is finely tailored from premium Scottish wool by our own kilt makers here in Kansas City since 1983. Each kilt is carefully crafted from authentic tartans imported from Scotland. Our kilt makers will tailor your kilt to have 3 buckles/straps, belt loops, and double fringe on the front apron. Each kilt is fully lined in the waist. This is a custom garment that cannot be returned. Because we make these kilts to order, please know that delivery is approximately 10 to 12 weeks. This is a general estimate.

MEASURING:
Use only a cloth tape measure when taking kilt measurements. Do not use rulers, or metal tape measures. However, we can copy a current total length if you have an existing kilt already. YARDAGE:
Pricing will change depending on sizes submitted and amount of material needed for the individual. Price ranges are as follows:
7 yard kilt (Hips up to 37") $495
8 yard kilt (Hips 38 to 46") $520
9 yard kilt (Hips 47 to 55") $570
PLEATING:
There are two ways to pleat your kilt in the back. You can either pleat it to the sett so the tartan is shown front and back in the same way, or pleat it to the line so that we choose one line to emphasize which then makes the pleating pattern look completely different than the front. Some tartans don't lend themselves to pleating to the line. We show you an example of both in the photos below using the Royal Stewart tartan. If you're in doubt, we strongly suggest you pleat to the sett as pleating to the line can make a stark difference. First time kilt wearers should maybe avoid pleating to the line.

Everything is great!
I visited the J. Higgins' store with my wife to get measured for an 18oz MacRae of Conchra ancient kilt. My wife asked if I'd like two kilts. Got a MacDonald Lord of the Isles green, too. The workmanship is excellent, the fit is perfect, and they were prepared so nicely for shipment. My next kilt that I'll order in a few months will be the Connaught Irish from Lochcarron. Oh, and the salesman was kind, patient, and very helpful. J. Higgins is the best!

My first "real" Kilt
I have had off the shelf utility kilts in the past. But this was my first Kilt. The team was great. They noted that my measurements were off. With their help, I got the right measurements and it fits great and falls just right. I love it. And I love the help they provided and the experience they had.

I received my heavy weight wool kilt and love it. I have wanted a kilt in the Cuillins of Skye tartan for years and finally had the funds to order it. I chose J Higgins to make this kilt because I’ve never had an issue with anything I’ve ordered in the past. I plan to use this kilt for playing solo gigs.

Fantastic
I ownwd several kilts before purchasing from J Higgins. There were several items I noticed once i received the kilt, aside from the great price, that someone to buying a kilt might appreciate knoledge of. First is the delivery. It nice to have a kilt ordered that is folded in such a way as to not to need ironing of pleats to wear the first time. This may seem trival to some, but ironing pleats can be a pain for anyone new to kilts. Secondly is the fact that the pleats on an 8 yard kilt wete scalloped before securing. This detail allows for a better fit of a kilt belt whilt keeping the pleats flat as well as comfort with a belt. For seasoned kilt wearers, they know the difference with my last comment. Lastly is something most folks dont notice aside from a seamstres. The pleats are all blind stitched throughout the rise from the seat to the waist. I was not expecting this detail but am pleasently suprised by this attention to craftsmanship. In short, this kilt is the work of a master in his trade.

Wonderful Kilt
This is the second kilt I've had made by J Higgins and it's every bit as fine as the first. The fit is perfect and the workmanship is unparalleled. I wear a kilt quite frequently (not just for dress-up) and always receive positive comments. I'll certainly be ordering again to round off my Highland wardrobe.

AMAZING
I was a bit nervous to order such a customized item online, but with the online consultation that J.Higgins offers, we were able to confirm all measurements and other options via video chat. The waiting was the hardest part, however, once I received the items I ordered, the actual kilt itself is better than perfect. The fit, feel, and look of the kilt is top-notch and I could not be happier with the purchase. Beyond that, the interaction with J.Higgins from start to finish was AMAZING. I will definitely continue to use J.Higgins for any and all future kilt purchases based on the overall customer experience and the quality of their products.

A quality kilt for those on a budget
I ordered a custom fit kilt about 2 years ago to use for my own gigs and contests, and I must say that you cannot beat the quality craftsmanship at the price that J Higgins sells for. It is sturdy and comfortable, has no signs of wear or tear, and still hangs neatly after light use throughout the years. My ONLY concern, which again has still not happened, is that the threads holding the buckles may come undone. They look fairly loose but again this is a mild concern in the face of durability for the past 2 years. Would absolutely recommend someone looking for a kilt to buy through J Higgins.
