Your J. Higgins Kilt is finely tailored from premium Scottish wool by our own kilt makers here in Kansas City since 1983. Each kilt is carefully crafted from authentic tartans imported from Scotland. Our kilt makers will tailor your kilt to have 3 buckles/straps, belt loops, and double fringe on the front apron. Each kilt is fully lined in the waist. Matching tartan flashes are also available here: https://www.jhiggins.net/flashes/

This is a custom garment that cannot be returned. Because we make these kilts to order, please know that delivery is approximately 10 to 12 weeks. This is a general estimate.

Firmly grounded in tradition, we believe our kilts are among the best kilts made in the world. Let us make yours.

MEASURING:

Use only a cloth tape measure when taking kilt measurements. Do not use rulers, or metal tape measures. However, we can copy a current total length if you have an existing kilt already. Please mention this in the comments section of your order. Check out our video and measurement guide below for helpful suggestions on how to measure for your kilt:

YARDAGE:

Pricing will change depending on sizes submitted and amount of material needed for the individual. Price ranges are as follows:

7 yard kilt (Hips up to 37") $470

8 yard kilt (Hips 38 to 46") $495

9 yard kilt (Hips 47 to 55") $565

PLEATING:

There are two ways to pleat your kilt in the back. You can either pleat it to the sett so the tartan is shown front and back in the same way, or pleat it to the line so that we choose one line to emphasize which then makes the pleating pattern look completely different than the front. Some tartans don't lend themselves to pleating to the line. We show you an example of both in the photos below using the Royal Stewart tartan. If you're in doubt, we strongly suggest you pleat to the sett as pleating to the line can make a stark difference. First time kilt wearers should maybe avoid pleating to the line.

    Just Plain Gorgeous

Posted by Donald Clement on 11th Nov 2016

This is my 3rd Higgins kilt, two were ordered through my pipe band a few years ago. My wife wanted to get me my family tartan for Christmas and wanted the kilt cut to the line rather than the sett. I was a little skeptical considering the color arrangement of Ancient Lamont. I sent the measurements and received a call the next day questioning a measurement, and that got worked out. My kilt came yesterday and FAR, FAR exceeds all my expectations. The kilt fits like it should having been tailored for me and the excellent job the kiltmaker did in selecting the line was just short of amazing. I guess I will need to order another from my maternal side of HAY.

    COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!

Posted by Jason on 11th Sep 2015

I sent in all my measurements and the next day JJ Higgins contacted me because one of the measurements didn't add up. They recommended I remeasure and let theme know. They were correct! That amazing attention to detail was such a comfort to have. I messaged them several times over the course of the time they were making it and they were always quick to respond and answered everything in detail. I received my Kilt yesterday and was completely blown away! I was surprised beyond belief and in utter shock and excitement. Everything fit just as it was supposed to and was better than I ever imagined. Amazing craftsman! I will definitely be ordering more items in the future. There is no other place than JJ HI gains to get the highest quality Highland wear!
