Our premium quality ghillie brogue shoes. Made in the traditional style using the highest quality leather with leather soles. Our shoes come in half sizes and an adjustable width using the tightness of the laces. Order in your American size and we will send you the British equivalent (i.e. if you order an American 10 we will send a size 9). All of our ghillie brogues are made with a metal heel cleat that is covered by a thin layer of film which will wear off after the first wearing. This increases the lifespan of the shoe and is part of the traditional way of making ghillie brogues.
For Women's Sizing: We recommend that you deduct 2 1/2 sizes from your ladies size and order that size. For example, if you wear a ladies 9 1/2 you would order a size 7. We'd appreciate a comment on your order noting that you have done this conversion.
- Important Note -
Please try on for size while walking on carpet. Unfortunately, we cannot exchange shoes that show signs of wear. Shoes worn for any purpose other than initial trying on for size, while on carpet, cannot be exchanged.

sizes seem big
Even with correct measuring, I need at least a half size smaller. Exchanges are on your dime unfortunately. Otherwise seems good quality.

fantastic!
Loved these. First brogues purchase and these fit and look splendidly. Super understandable return policy and don’t believe I’d ever need to use it. Fantastic quality, comments left and right from friends and comfortable enough to wear all day.

Best quality
I purchased these because they had half sizes, so my 10 1/2 USA came as a UK 9 1/2. I have WIDE feet so I purchased a wooden shoe stretcher and the Shoe Stretch liquid that I have used for 40 years with my Redwing work boots. The quality leather stretches nicely. Next step is a gloss shine, when in the Navy I had the best shine on the ship. These ghillies will go great with my 30 year old JHiggins McCauley kilt.

Well Made Ghillies
Bought these for my son and was not expecting the quality I received. Well made ghillies and fit perfect. For the price, these are a steal! Outstanding quality! Thanks J. Higgins!

Don’t look any farther
I got all the answers I needed when I wrote to ask about where the shoes are made, and why their price is so much lower than their competitors. They arrived in two days and were shipped within hours of my order, which was awesome. They are just as high or higher quality as the ghillies I had previously purchased stamped “Made in Scotland.” These are made by J Higgins themselves to an excellent standard, including having the sole actually sewn onto the shoe. I researched shoes from six different companies and these seemed like the best option but were just so much less money that I had to ask several questions. Believe me, as I wear these a few times a week, they are awesome.

Ghillies as described. Good fit and appearance
Needed a new pair while my others are being repaired. These are good shoes for the money. Will use these for dress shoes and my others will be the all around shoe. In 25 years doing business with jhiggins I have never been disappointed.

Good Brogues but Beware
Overall, these are good quality brogues, especially at this price point. First the pros: Overall construction seems very good. I feel they will be durable and hold up well over time. Style is spot on for a traditional brogue. I've read other reviews about them being high on the ankle and causing issues, but I didn't find this to be the case. Certainly not so much as to be uncomfortable or cause issues. Leather seems to be of good quality. Cons: Of course, any shoe with a leather sole will be a bit slippery until they get scuffed up a little, so watch those first few steps. Size wise, not sure. I wear a 9 (US) with dress socks. Followed advice to order 1/2 size large for the thicker kilt socks. Feels like 9 would have been a hair tight and 9 1/2 fits well, but would have been nice to be just a hair smaller. Again, not a big issue, not big enough to prevent comfortable wear. Next pair, however, I think I'll go back to a 9 and let them stretch out to fit perfectly. I would say these must be a fairly true size, not overly small or large. Biggest Con: The black dye on the inside of the shoe rubbed off on my white kilt socks, including the laces. Thank God it wasn't a super expensive pair of socks. But be very aware of this when you first wear them. Even without the shoes getting damp, your white socks will end up black by the end of the day. The good news is that nobody will notice the stain, since the shoe will cover it next time. But still, it would have been very upsetting had they been an expensive pair of socks. But all said - would definitely order again. Had to knock off a star because of the dye issue, but that's my only real complaint.
