Drone Reeds Replacement Tongues (Selbie)

Every time I dry out my pipes after practice or parades, I always slip a dollar bill under the tongues, hold a light pressure on the top of the tongue, and pull it out. This keeps both the tongue and the reed body clean. This way, I know that when my reeds get wonky or hard to adjust, the problem is the tongue itself and not dirt. With these Selbies, I can replace the tongue, adjust the bridle, and be playing in a few minutes. Fantastic!

Knowing that plastic has a usable life span, I decided to purchase some new tongues for my Selbies. I use just the tenors in two of my sets of pipes. I recently upgraded to a new hybrid bag on my Silver and Ivory set, and noticed that the tenors were a little bit twitchy and in consistent. I replaced the tongues and gave the reed bodies a good cleaning with some dish washing soap. I was immediately impressed with the tone and the behavior during strike ins, as well as to consistency between the pair. Do yourself a favor if you have played your Selbies for a while, get some new tongues and be reminded of that out if the box performance that makes Selbies so great.
