FAQ's - Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
We often hear from
people commenting about what they thought they were
going to pay, and what they ended up paying, when
they purchased from some foreign companies on-line. We
have some guidelines for you in order for you to make an
informed decision.
To begin with: Our prices
are in American dollars; what you see is what you will
pay if you live in America. You would be wise to check
out an independent site such as the Federal Reserve
Board of New York which posts exchange rates daily. You
can find them at
www.x-rates.com . This is how you can find out what
the exchange rate will be:
1) Find out what currency
you will be billed in. Most websites will say it. Ours
is American dollars.
2) Some web sites list
products and ask you to click on YOUR currency.
INSTEAD, CLICK ON THEIR CURRENCY (say British Pounds) and
then go to the link we've given you here (or call your
bank) and multiply the British pound price by the rate
you see on the exchange table. You might find some
websites that have an exchange rate which differs
from an independent website or your bank's rate. You
will have to decide which one is more accurate.
3) Don't forget that your
shipment is subject to import duties if it arrives to
you from outside of the country. By law, this can add
30 to 40% depending on what you order. Consult your US
Customs Office at
www.cbp.gov
for current rates of duty.
4) Order from J.
Higgins and you
will be billed in US dollars for the price quoted on our
web page. If you are ordering from J.
Higgins from
outside of America PLEASE consult your local bank and
Customs office for current exchange rates and proper
duties based upon our stated US rates.
Now, a note on prices:
What you see is what you will pay! A lot of
companies advertising on the internet have a
disclaimer saying their charges will be in British
pounds Sterling and might vary from what their
website state. PLEASE read our note on our home
page about ordering from companies outside of
America to learn more about that process.
Now, a note on customs
duties: Our prices include all import duties
because we have paid these when your materials
arrived before they were made into your garment.
You will not have any hidden fees assessed. If you
order from companies located outside of America you
will be subject to duties which can add 30 to 40% to
your product total.
We say these things to
you for two reasons:
- Ordering internationally in different currencies
can be confusing. We want you to know that we value
your patronage and that you're getting the best
value for your money by paying the actual tailors,
and not a middleman, for your Highland attire.
- We want you to make an informed decision
regarding the company you choose. Not a week goes
by where we don't receive a call from someone who
ordered from a company overseas only to learn that
they had to pay customs duties to the postman which
ran an additional 30 to 40% above the cost of their
garments.
With the advent of the
Internet you now have many choices. We want you to
make an informed decision.
